Description:
Meeting the behavioral health needs of patients in health center primary care settings depends on the effective use of specific skills designed for this purpose. This eight-session Community of Practice (CoP) is tailored for behavioral health providers working in community health centers. Join your colleagues to discuss patient-centered care planning and consultations, strategies for enhancing cultural relevance in clinical practice, motivational interviewing practices adapted to health centers, and methods to support behavioral activation. Participants will engage in case-based peer learning to understand the best and promising practices currently used in effectively integrated primary care settings. Optional 30-minute office hours follow each session for more support.
Behavioral health professionals may earn one continuing education credit for attending each CoP session.
Objectives:
At the end of this CoP, participants will be able to:
- Identify a set of core strategies and skills commonly deployed by behavioral health providers in integrated care
- Describe an approach to team-based care
- Identify and practice specific skills
- Develop a plan that supports transfer of learning and new skills into practice
Presenter:
Laura Ross, MS, LMFT, CCTP is a technical expert lead for JBS International, Inc. and an experienced leader in the field of behavioral health care for over 25 years. She has directed numerous state and federal grants serving under-resourced populations and marginalized communities through trauma-informed, client-centered, and evidence-based services. She has developed treatment programs and training courses on mental health and substance use conditions and treatment, health care integration, inclusive health care, and suicide prevention, among others. She consults with organizations across the nation providing training and technical assistance for health centers integrating primary and behavioral health care.
