Description:

Meeting the behavioral health needs of patients in health center primary care settings depends on the effective use of specific skills designed for this purpose. This eight-session Community of Practice (CoP) is tailored for behavioral health providers working in community health centers. Join your colleagues to discuss patient-centered care planning and consultations, motivational interviewing practices adapted to health centers, and methods to support behavioral activation. Participants will engage in case-based peer learning to understand the best and promising practices currently used in effectively integrated primary care settings. Optional 30-minute office hours follow each session for more support.

Behavioral health professionals may earn one continuing education credit for attending each CoP session.

Objectives:

At the end of this CoP, participants will be able to:

  • Identify a set of core strategies and skills commonly deployed by behavioral health providers in integrated care
  • Describe an approach to team-based care 
  • Identify and practice specific skills
  • Develop a plan that supports transfer of learning and new skills into practice

Presenter:

Laura Ross, MS, LMFT, CCTP

Laura Ross, MS, LMFT, CCTP, CTMH, is a Technical Expert Lead for JBS International, Inc. and a senior clinician and executive leader in behavioral health for over 25 years. Her current work employs an interdisciplinary approach to integrating behavioral health into traditionally medically based health care systems and settings. She has experience directing state and federal grants (Health Resources Service Administration [HRSA], and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration [SAMHSA] Centers for Substance Abuse Treatment [CSAT]) utilizing evidence-based and person-centered practices in the provision of telehealth and in-person behavioral health and medical care settings. Laura has presented nationally on primary care and behavioral health integration with the National Association for Community Health Centers (NACHC) and has developed treatment programs and training courses on many aspects of mental health, substance use, and primary care and behavioral health integration across the country. She currently consults for organizations of all sizes, providing training and technical assistance on rural behavioral telehealth integration and primary care and behavioral health integration.
