The Peer Support Role in Integrated Behavioral Health

This webinar will explore the role that peer support specialists can play within integrated behavioral health settings. Participants will understand how peer support services enhance care delivery and foster patient engagement. Participants will learn how one health center, Grace Health Kentucky, is defining and structuring the peer support role, onboarding peer support specialists, and providing supervision and feedback.

Objectives:
Participants in this webinar will be able to:
- Outline the essential skills and abilities of peer support specialists.
- Identify ways to structure peer support specialist onboarding, supervision, and feedback so they are successful in their health center roles.
Presenters:

Brooke Nipper, LPCC-S, Behavioral Health Director, Grace Health Kentucky, offers 25 years experience in mental health and substance use disorder services. Over the course of her tenure, Brooke has experience in case management, individual and group therapy, family therapy and has worked in both outpatient and residential services. Brooke also is certified in supervising licensed practice clinical associates. Brooke began serving in administrative roles in 2020 before joining Grace Health as Director of Behavioral Health in 2022.

Maranda D. Portwood, BHCPSS, Peer Support Specialist, Grace Health Kentucky, has served as a peer support specialist at Grace Health since 2023. She partners with individuals to set goals, navigate resources, and build recovery-focused skills, with a special focus on compassionate addiction care. She has supported clients across community health centers, drug court programs, and mental health settings. Maranda is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in social work at the University of Cumberlands and is committed to person-directed, strength-based care.
Continuing Education (CE):
- We offer behavioral health continuing education credits for participation in behavioral health/substance use disorder integration technical assistance (BH/SUD TA) events.
- You must attend the event and complete the online Health Center TA Satisfaction Assessment after the event (2-3 minutes).
- A link to the Health Center TA Satisfaction Assessment will be provided at the end of the session.
- CE certificates will be sent within 5 weeks of the event from the Health Center BH/SUD TA Team via Smartsheet <user@app.smartsheet.com>.
